Abstract

Amid the pervasive integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into academic work, the work-life balance of university lecturers has emerged as a critical concern in the evolving higher education landscape. While AI offers transformative potential to streamline teaching, research, and administrative tasks, its effective utilization hinges on lecturers’ AI awareness, their ability to collaborate with AI tools, and their sustained work engagement. Against this backdrop, the specific mechanisms through which these three factors collectively shape which these three factors collectively shape work-life balance remain underexplored. Drawing on the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) Model, this study investigates the direct and indirect impacts of AI awareness, employee-AI collaboration, and work engagement on work-life balance among university lecturers. Adopting a quantitative research approach, we collected survey data from university lecturers across multiple institutions and analyzed the data using structural equation modeling
